The Classical Magnet Gladiators scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 95-78 win over University. The win was just what Classical Magnet needed coming off of a 88-58 loss in their prior matchup.
When it comes to explaining why University lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malik Rich. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. Rich scored a full 39.7% of University's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jakari Laing was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, University were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Classical Magnet's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.33 points. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Classical Magnet will take on Academy of Science and Innovation at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for University, they will be playing at home against Metropolitan Learning Center at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Metropolitan Learning Center and University are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
