Basketball Game Preview: Floydada Whirlwinds vs. Post Antelopes

The Floydada Whirlwinds will take on the Post Antelopes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Floydada's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matches.

Floydada is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 94-54 victory over Ralls. Given the Whirlwinds' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 1445th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Floydada's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braun Hobbs led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 26 points, 13 boards, and 14 assists. Hobbs' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Sergio Valadez was another key player, going 11 of 23 en route to 28 points and three steals.

Floydada smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Post lost to Tahoka on the road by a 57-41 margin on Tuesday. The Antelopes haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Floydada is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points per game. As for Post, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Everything came up roses for Floydada against Post in their previous meeting back in December of 2020, as the squad secured a 73-45 win. Will Floydada repeat their success, or does Post have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
