Mattawan came tearing into  Monday's  match with three straight wins  (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Lakeview Spartans as they made off with  a  9-2 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won 14 contests by more than five  runs this season, Monday's  blowout was nothing new.
 Maxx Vanantwerp tossed a big game,   striking out eight batters over  4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off   three  hits. Those  eight  strikeouts gave  him a new career-high.
 At the plate,  Brody Houseman was  excellent,  going 1-for-4 with one  home run and two  RBI. Another player making a difference was  Jake Vrba, who  went 1-for-3 with one  stolen base, one  run,  and one  RBI.
 Mattawan  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeview only posted  an  OBP of  .296.
Mattawan pushed their record up to 26-4-4 with the  win, which was their fourth straight  at home. Those  home  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Lakeview,  this is the second loss in a row for them and  nudges their season record down to 12-14.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattawan will head out to  face off against Kalamazoo Central  at 4:00  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Lakeview, they will face off against Lakeshore at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5  runs per game  this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
