It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Ooltewah Owls face off against Signal Mountain Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ooltewah is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Ooltewah's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against East Ridge as Ooltewah made off with a 12-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Owls in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won seven in a row.
Nobody will forget Emmerson Reed's heroic performance anytime soon (especially East Ridge's batters): she turned in a perfect game.
On the hitting side, Ooltewah let Jaeda Tucker and Addilyn Watts run wild. Tucker went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Watts went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that Tucker launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Gelbaugh, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ooltewah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Signal Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 14-2 to Girls Prep.
Signal Mountain saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Berkley Roddy, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Ooltewah pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Signal Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Signal Mountain's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Ooltewah has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Signal Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Ooltewah keep running through batters, or will Signal Mountain buck the trend?
Everything went Ooltewah's way against Signal Mountain in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Ooltewah made off with a 13-0 win. Will Ooltewah repeat their success, or does Signal Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
