The Cornell Raiders had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Avella by a score of 63-53 on Friday. The win was just what Cornell needed coming off of a 70-20 defeat in their prior match.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Westley Burchianti, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Burchianti hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Bryce Wright was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Cornell's victory bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Avella, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornell will challenge Western Beaver at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cornell is coming into the matchup with 13 straight wins on the road, meaning Western Beaver will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Avella, they will challenge Carlynton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Avella is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season.
