The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will take on the Terre Haute South Vigo Braves at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Greencastle is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 67 points last Monday, they were much more limited against West Vigo last Monday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Vikings an easy 49-25 victory.
Despite the defeat, Greencastle had strong showings from Sarah Simmerman, who posted six points and five boards, and Emily Hunsinger, who earned three points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Greencastle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Terre Haute South Vigo and Terre Haute North Vigo faced off in a cross-town battle on Monday. Terre Haute South Vigo might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Terre Haute North Vigo an easy 47-26 win. The loss continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now lost seven in a row.
Avery Cassell was Terre Haute South Vigo's leading scorer, having posted six points. Karizma English-Malone took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Terre Haute South Vigo's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Greencastle, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Greencastle has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Terre Haute South Vigo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Greencastle came out on top in a nail-biter against Terre Haute South Vigo in their previous meeting back in January of 2020, sneaking past 37-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greencastle since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
