The North Edgecombe Warriors waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They put the hurt on Northwest Halifax with a sharp 74-52 win. Given North Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Northwest Halifax is ranked 552nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Edgecombe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dontrevious Whitaker out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmir Parker, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
North Edgecombe pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 18 points. As for Northwest Halifax, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Edgecombe will take on Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Northampton County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully North Edgecombe likes a good challenge. Northwest Halifax won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against KIPP P at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th.
