Basketball Recap: Preston Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Enloe over Cardinal Gibbons

Enloe was the 78-61 winner over Cardinal Gibbons when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Enloe Eagles took a 59-44 bruising from the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while the Crusaders are ranked 55th).

Enloe lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Preston Williams, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Williams has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of John Brown, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 13 points.

Cardinal Gibbons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Walker Montague led the charge by putting up 13 points. Cash McSweeney was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards.

Enloe is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Enloe will host Southeast Raleigh at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will venture away from home to square off against Leesville Road at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
