Lamar and Bellaire are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Lamar Texans will head out on the road to square off against the Bellaire Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Lamar posted their biggest victory since December 18, 2023 on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 69-38 victory over Chavez. Given Lamar's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while Chavez is ranked 1089th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Bellaire entered their tilt with Chavez with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. Bellaire blew past Chavez 86-34 on the road. Bellaire's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bellaire's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shelton Henderson led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five assists and three steals. Henderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Anthony Andrews was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Lamar is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. As for Bellaire, they pushed their record up to 20-6 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Lamar suffered a grim 58-37 defeat to Bellaire in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Lamar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
