Willis is 2-8 against Grand Oaks since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Willis Wildkats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies at 1:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, Willis was able to grind out a solid win over Oak Ridge, taking the game 76-65. Given Willis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Oak Ridge is ranked 905th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Willis' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Bass, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Bishop jr, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Grand Oaks was fully in charge on Wednesday, breezing past Cleveland 72-35 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Grand Oaks has managed all season.
Willis pushed their record up to 20-11 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Grand Oaks, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-15 record this season.
Willis beat Grand Oaks 68-61 when the teams last played back in January. Does Willis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grand Oaks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
