The SkyView Academy Hawks will face off against the Flatirons Academy Bison at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (SkyView Academy 3.7, Flatirons Academy 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
SkyView Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Lyons on Thursday. They came up short against the Lions, falling 10-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hawks, who until this matchup were averaging 3.69 runs allowed.
Chris Gallegos made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Logen Meyers was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Flatirons Academy never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Otis on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Bison have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Caleb Doughty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mateo Pope was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braxton Kelley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Flatirons Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Otis only posted a batting average of .125.
SkyView Academy moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Flatirons Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. SkyView Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
SkyView Academy beat Flatirons Academy 5-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Bison have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
