3A Special District 2 recap October 22, 2013
Coquille made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 13,051 from 13,434. The improvement was the result of a 38-12 victory over Myrtle Point last week.
The Red Devils led 3A Special District 2 in scoring this week by notching 38 points on the Bobcats. Joseph Scolari ran for 182 yards and caught 2 passes for 28 yards during the win.
Coquille's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Breitkreutz threw for 90 and 1 touchdown and Makel (Moe) Faith had 34 yards receiving. On the ground Scolari chipped in 182 yards. Scolari helped Coquille's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.
Scolari was a passing and rushing force as David Thomason's team bested Myrtle Point. Scolari's favorite target this week was Faith, who caught 3 passes for 34 yards.
Scolari was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Tristan Dixon added to the ground attack by rushing for 106 yards.
The Red Devils' Breitkreutz and Scolari led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Breitkreutz has thrown for 478 yards this season, while Scolari has 19 catches for 248 yards. Bandon/Pacific's Shawn Peters leads the league in rushing yards with 476.
A big matchup in 3A Special District 2 this week will be when Coquille takes on the Tigers. At the moment, the Red Devils are in third, while Bandon/Pacific is in second.
The league will see a high scoring game when Coquille and Silia Polamalu's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Red Devils comes in having scored 105 this season, while the Tigers have scored 66. Coquille scored 38 points last week as it topped Marty Stallard's team.
The Red Devils led the league in points allowed with 12.
