Bowen had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They managed a 12-7 victory over the ACERO Garcia Patriots. Given the Boilermakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Patriots are ranked 565th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bowen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joyden Short, who posted two points in addition to nine steals and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Short a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Dyamond Anderson, who put up four points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.

Bowen's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for ACERO Garcia, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Bowen and ACERO Garcia's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Bowen and Horizon Science Academy-Southwest (who has only given up 30 points per game) will meet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Bowen's defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so ACERO Garcia's offense will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, ACERO Garcia and Air Force Academy (who has only given up five points per game) will meet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
