The Wakeland Wolverines are taking a road trip to take on the Lone Star Rangers at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lone Star's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Wakeland hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Wolverines never let Creekview get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Friday. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Jordan Mcnees looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reese Thomas was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zanna Osborn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Wakeland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lone Star got the win against Turner on Friday by a conclusive 9-2.
Lairyn Bell looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Serenity Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Wooten, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Lone Star has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wakeland, their record is now 19-4.
Lone Star's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Wakeland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lone Star, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Wakeland keep running through batters, or will the Rangers buck the trend?
Wakeland came out on top in a nail-biter against Lone Star in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
