4A Region I District 3 recap September 17, 2013
Anthony McClain of Palo Duro ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Region I District 3 this season against Hereford last week. McClain ran for 85 yards on the play and finished with 113 on the day as his team bested the Whitefaces.
Kendrick Buckingham and Shennard Shepherd provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Hereford. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 64 yards.
Caprock's dynamic duo of Victor Rodriguez and Jordan Atkinson proved to be unstoppable against Estacado, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rodriguez threw for 127 yards and Atkinson had 88 yards receiving. Austin Cruz helped Caprock's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 32 yards.
The Longhorns' dynamic duo of Rodriguez and Atkinson proved tough for the Matadors to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Antaun Turner provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Palo Duro topped Don Delozier's team.
Rodriguez put up the best numbers through the air as Caprock topped Estacado.
Atkinson was the best receiver in the league this week as the Longhorns beat Danny Servance's team.
Turner was the best running back in 4A Region I District 3 this week. He ran for 155 yards on 16 carries as Steve Parr's team defeated the Matadors.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Longhorns' Rodriguez and Maliek Yarborough have proven to be a lethal combination. Rodriguez has thrown for 563 yards this season, while Yarborough has 6 catches for 158 yards. The Dons' Turner leads the league in rushing yards with 250.
Caprock scaled the state rankings by moving to 279 from 411 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Longhorns were able to make move up by besting Estacado 30-26.
