Freedom is 2-7 against Wharton since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Freedom Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Wharton Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Freedom is hoping to put an end to an 18-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Freedom fell victim to Armwood's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Hawks 60-0. While losing is never fun, Freedom can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 516th, while Armwood is ranked 31st).
Meanwhile, Wharton got themselves on the board against Bloomingdale on Friday, but Bloomingdale never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bulls 55-0 on the road.
Wharton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Terek Mccant out in front who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Wharton also got help from Malaqhi Jones who showed off his sure hands for 104 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Wharton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Booker Pickett jr and his two sacks.
Armwood's win bumped their season record to 7-1 while Freedom's defeat dropped theirs to 0-8.
Freedom was dealt a bruising 76-6 defeat at the hands of Wharton when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Freedom avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
