The Gaston Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Glencoe, falling 54-17. While losing is never fun, Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while Glencoe is ranked 172nd).
Glencoe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kinlee Montgomery, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Montgomery has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Ponder, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Gaston dropped their record down to 4-16 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.4 points per game. As for Glencoe, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston will take on Hokes Bluff at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Glencoe won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Oneonta at 5:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Oneonta will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
