The Columbine Rebels will face off against the Cherry Creek Bruins at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Columbine comes in on 13 and Cherry Creek on 17.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Columbine walked away with it. They took down the Chargers 35-16 on Friday.
Josh Snyder continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Snyder is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Chatfield to a paltry 220 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Columbine's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Hunter Hamilton and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek faced Ralston Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cherry Creek walked away with a 21-14 victory over Ralston Valley on Saturday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Cherry Creek was the (much) better team in the second half.
Cherry Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Herron, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Columbine to 13-0 and Chatfield to 10-4.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Columbine has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 315.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cherry Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 218.1 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Columbine might still be hurting after the 35-10 loss they got from Cherry Creek in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Thankfully for Columbine, Jayle Stacks (who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
