Columbia City hasn't had much luck against Leo recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will face off against the Lions at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Columbia City 2.8, Leo 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Leo will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Columbia City extended their winning streak to five on Monday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand East Noble a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Knights since May 8, 2017.
East Noble's batters probably weren't too happy with Emma Hiss, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Hiss has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Columbia City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bralynn Leazier, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Leo made easy work of Huntington North on Monday and carried off a 10-0 win.
The result came thanks to Leah Shappell's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carley Funk, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Malina Lape, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Leo is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Columbia City, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Columbia City came up short against Leo when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
