Basketball Recap: Northeastern Skates Past Manteo with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Northeastern over Manteo in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Northeastern Eagles blew the Manteo Redskins out of the water with an 85-50 final score. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northeastern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyell Saunders, who posted 14 points and four steals. Z'Kobe Whidbee was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Northeastern was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manteo only racked up seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Manteo lost, don't look at Landon Sawyer. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 12 en route to 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Sam Jenkins, who put up nine points and eight rebounds.

Northeastern pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. As for Manteo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Looking ahead, Northeastern will venture away from home to take on Currituck County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Currituck County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Northeastern likes a good challenge. As for Manteo, they will be playing at home against Hertford County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Manteo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season.
