Glenrock has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Glenrock Herders and the Newcastle Dogies will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Newcastle took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Glenrock, who comes in off a win.
Even though Glenrock has not done well against Moorcroft recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Glenrock sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 victory over Moorcroft. The win was just what Glenrock needed coming off of a 62-21 loss in their prior match.
Newcastle suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were dealt a 72-26 loss at the hands of Buffalo. While losing is never fun, Newcastle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wyoming basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Buffalo is ranked second).
Despite the defeat, Newcastle had strong showings from Sydney Pederson, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds, and Julie Morris, who scored no points. That was a full 61.5% of Newcastle's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Glenrock's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Newcastle, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6.
Glenrock was taken down by Newcastle 71-44 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Glenrock, Jaylen Ostenson (who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 14 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
