The Burbank Bulldogs waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Alamo Heights and snuck past 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Burbank's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Savannah Botello, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Botello has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia De la cruz, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Alamo Heights' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sophia Zadel, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, and Talaiyah Andrews who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Andrews has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Megan Hawkins was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Burbank pushed their record up to 24-8 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Alamo Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-8.
Coincidentally, Burbank and the Mules will both be playing the Owls the next time they take the court. Burbank will head out to face the Owls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Mules will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
