V Section I recap Oct. 16, 2012
Pinon extended the longest winning streak in V Section I this week by beating Valley, 28-26. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Eagles.
Greyhills Academy and Many Farms played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Greyhills Academy eventually emerging with a 14-12 victory.
Williams's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jeff Brownlee threw for 132 and two touchdowns and Coty Baxter had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Joaquin Salaz chipped in 89 yards. Adrian Solano helped Williams' passing attack out by catching one ball for 28 yards.
Hopi's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bruins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Allen Joshevama has thrown for 1206 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Blake Sekaquaptewa has 33 catches for 575 yards. Sekaquaptewa leads the league in rushing with 967 yards.
Hopi's Sekaquaptewa needs only 33 yards against Window Rock next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in V Section I this week will be when Red Rock takes on the Vikings. The Scorpions are currently in fourth, while Williams is in first.
Jeff Brownlee's team took down the Bruins 58-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brownlee ran for three yards in the win.
