Laurel has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Blair Blazers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Blair took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Laurel, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, it was close, but Laurel sidestepped Bladensburg for a 28-25 victory.
Laurel can attribute much of their success to Takel Sanford, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, and Nathan Watkins, who gained 190 total yards and a touchdown. Edwin Rivas got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Laurel's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Myles Barrett and Ryyan Brown who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Blair's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 34-7 loss at the hands of Blake.
Laurel's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Bladensburg, Northwestern, and High Point. As for Blair, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Laurel suffered a grim 56-35 defeat to Blair in their previous meeting back in November of 2021. Thankfully for Laurel, Kendell Anderson (who threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 15.3 yards per attempt, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time.
