Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nasir Johnson and Jonathan Jason Bell Lead Gar-Field to Victory

On Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Gar-Field Red Wolves beat the Ballou Knights 53-48. The win was all the more spectacular given the Red Wolves' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 101st in Virginia, while the Knights are ranked 19th in District of Columbia).

Gar-Field was led to victory by Jonathan Jason Bell and Nasir Johnson. Bell went 8 of 20 en route to 26 points and four steals, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Bell's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tre Walden, who posted four points and four steals.

Gar-Field is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Ballou, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Gar-Field will face off against Colonial Forge at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gar-Field is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season. As for Ballou, they will square off against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th.
