After each having a week off, the Broken Bow Savages and the Tuttle Tigers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Broken Bow is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Friday. Everything went their way against Weatherford as they made off with a 50-28 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Savages, who have now won seven games in a row.
Greydon Howell produced another solid effort throwing for 260 yards and four TDs while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 133 yards and one score on only ten carries. Broken Bow's leading receiver Adrian Brannon was Howell's top target yet again, picking up 110 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Broken Bow's run defense was locked in: Weatherford could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Bentley Brown for the heroic effort on defense: he. Broken Bow didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.
Broken Bow's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Brown and Bryan Clay, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Another thorn in Weatherford's side was Brown, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made 16 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Tuttle won against Clinton back in November with 51 points and they decided to stick to that point total again last Friday. The Tigers blew past Grove 51-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Ridgerunners are ranked 36th).
Tuttle's win came from a few key players Broken Bow will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cruz Campbell, who threw for 409 yards and five TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. Those 409 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Tuttle's leading receiver Jalen Lane was Campbell's top target yet again, picking up 239 receiving yards and three scores.
Tuttle's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Broken Bow, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Broken Bow and Tuttle were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in November of 2019, but Broken Bow suffered an agonizing 14-13 loss. Can the Savages avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
