Baseball Recap: Deer Creek Comes Up Short

If Deer Creek was riding high fresh off their 14-1 takedown of Central Holmes Christian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warriors took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans on Friday. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 14-1.

Brayden Smith was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Deer Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Central Holmes Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Deer Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Central Holmes Christian, they will take on Benton Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
