The Evansville Reitz Panthers and the Evansville North Huskies squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Evansville Reitz Panthers had to settle for second. They took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. Evansville Reitz was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Evansville Reitz's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Norah Miller, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Miller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bailey Hape, who scored 13 points.
Evansville North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddy Knies, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Libby Blythe was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Evansville Reitz and nudges their season record down to 14-6. As for Evansville North, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-10.
Evansville Reitz does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Evansville North won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Evansville Central is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
