Rising Sun and Milan are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Shiners will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Rising Sun will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Rising Sun proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Southwestern 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Shiners have posted against the Rebels since April 12, 2022.
Weston Cumberworth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, D.J. Williams was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was C.J. Berkley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Milan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against Switzerland County on Wednesday as they made off with an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Rising Sun, Milan also got a great game from a two-way player: Tommy Poole. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Poole was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Seth Thomas looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Morgan, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Mathew Baylor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Milan's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Rising Sun, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Milan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rising Sun hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. It's a different story for Milan, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Rising Sun's hitters?
Rising Sun couldn't quite finish off Milan in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Shiners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
