Baseball Recap: Jerome Wins Going Away Against Filer

It was a proper cat-fight when Jerome faced off against Filer on Friday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Wildcats. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Caleb Jones made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jerome let Cristian Orozco and Xaiden Van Tassell run wild. Orozco scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Van Tassell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Orozco a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Payton Jackson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Jerome's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Filer, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jerome will square off against Wood River at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Filer, they will face off against Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
