The Adams Central Flying Jets will head out on the road to challenge the Bluffton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Adams Central is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
If Adams Central beats Bluffton with three runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Flying Jets didn't even let Whitko on the board on Friday, marking the Flying Jets' second-straight 3-0 shutout.
Ethan Funk made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Funk was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Jacob Miller was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Andy Geels also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Bluffton came out on top against Churubusco on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Tigers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Bluffton also got a great performance from Dawson Lee as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Lee a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Chanley Shaw was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevor Smith, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
Bluffton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Adams Central, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Adams Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Adams Central couldn't quite get it done against Bluffton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Flying Jets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
