Neshannock has gone 9-1 against Shenango recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lancers will take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Neshannock will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
Neshannock came out on top against Laurel on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Lancers took their contest against the Spartans 6-2.
Addy Frye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Payton Newman was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaidon Nogay, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Shenango made sure to put some runs up on the board against New Brighton on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Lions a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won seven matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kennedi Lynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Lynn was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Offie, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Isabella Annarumo also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Shenango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Neshannock's win was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Shenango, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Neshannock has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Neshannock took their win against Shenango when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
