The Southern Academy Cougars suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Patrician Academy by a score of 31-29. Southern Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Patrician Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Thursday.
Despite the loss, Southern Academy still got an impressive performance from Kaitlyn Sluder, who scored nine points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Layken Horton, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Southern Academy and nudges their season record down to 10-2. As for Patrician Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Southern Academy will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Restoration Academy at 6:00 p.m. Restoration Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Southern Academy is ranked 70th). Patrician Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sparta Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
