Two dominant signal callers in Gage Walton and Kam Sealey are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Plainview Pirates will head out to take on the Sandy Creek Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Plainview is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 64-44 margin over Dundy County-Stratton. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won eight contests in a row.
Plainview found their leader in sophomore Walton, who rushed for 254 yards and three scores while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 30 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Plainview was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 380 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Sandy Creek humbled Bridgeport with a 45-6 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.
Plainview better keep an eye on Kaeden Schmidt. He was instrumental in Sandy Creek's win, picking up 36 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 42 yards. Schmidt didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended one pass.
Sandy Creek's defense made their presence known, laying out Nikolas Weibert four times. Bridgeport's QB won't forget Josh Spray anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Spray is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made eight or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Plainview's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Sandy Creek, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 10-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Plainview has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 207.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sandy Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 215 rushing yards.
