It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Westerly had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Barrington Eagles 3-2. The Bulldogs' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Alison Maranda paced Westerly's offense, picking up seven kills. Maranda got some help from Lyla Auth and her nine assists. Finally, Gemma Fusaro kept Westerly's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
Barrington's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melissa Freshman, who had three digs and two aces.
Westerly's record now sits at 21-0. As for Barrington, they moved to 17-4 with that loss, which also ended their 14-match winning streak.
