Lake Mead Christian Academy and Needles are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2023, but likely not for long. The Eagles will square off against the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Lake Mead Christian Academy duked it out with Indian Springs on Tuesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 16-1 win. The victory was just business as usual for the Eagles, who after ten games remain undefeated this season.
Christian Marrs was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Lake Mead Christian Academy let Bowe Farmer and Cameron LaPres run wild. Farmer scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while LaPres scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Farmer is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Cash Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Lake Mead Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 11 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
16 must be Needles' lucky number: they beat Laughlin with that score not once but twice last Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cougars a 16-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Needles got a massive performance out of Tyler Wilson, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Wilson is becoming a predictor of the Mustangs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 3-5-1 when he doesn't). JD Lusk was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Lake Mead Christian Academy's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Needles, their record now sits at 11-6-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lake Mead Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .429. However, it's not like Needles struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Mead Christian Academy suffered a grim 15-7 defeat to Needles in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
