Pierce Byrne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ronan Rowe was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kihl Kelly, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Saratoga Central Catholic lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waterford-Halfmoon didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Mechanicville got the win against Tamarac on Friday by a conclusive 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Saratoga Central Catholic's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Mechanicville, their record is now 9-3.
Saratoga Central Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Mechanicville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
