The King Vikings will face off against the Holy Child Gryphons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. King is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
King fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Hamden Hall Country Day on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 8-4 to the Hornets.

Elizabeth Tuttle put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Emma Drexel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Hathaway Liparidis was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Child). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Greenwich Country Day on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Like King, Holy Child also got a great game from a two-way player: Angelina Squillante. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Squillante was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Reagan Adiletta was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brianna Pallett, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Holy Child's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for King, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. King has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holy Child struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
