Ferguson is 0-10 against Coral Reef since February of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Falcons will take on the Barracudas at 4:00 p.m. Ferguson knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Coral Reef likes a good challenge.
Ferguson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Coral Gables a 15-0 shutout. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Ashley Barroso looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Briana Canahuate was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Amaya Santamaria, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ferguson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Coral Reef was a bit more limited in their contest last Saturday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Verot. The Barracudas' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Quinley Wylie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Ferguson pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Coral Reef, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ferguson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. However, it's not like Coral Reef struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ferguson might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Coral Reef when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
