The Gueydan Bears had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 34-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of Berwick.
Berwick found their leader in underclassman Azyria Garrison, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Garrison has scored at least 25% of Berwick's points.
Gueydan's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Berwick, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gueydan will take on Westminster Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Berwick, they will head out on the road to face off against Eunice at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
