Wapato had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-7 to make it eight. They lost 17-0 to the Royal Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-1 on Saturday.
As for Royal, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2-1. Considering they have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
For Royal's part, Bryan Larsen and Brit Wardenaar were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Larsen struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wardenaar tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Larsen went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Wardenaar went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Larsen also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Royal let Mason Meseberg and Karson Thompson run wild. Meseberg went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Bronson Scroggins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, Wapato will look to defend their home field on Friday against Naches Valley at 3:00 p.m. As for Royal, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-6 defeat against Cashmere on the 31st.
