Primero hasn't had much luck against Sierra Grande recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Primero is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Kiowa 65-38 on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won three matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ralsten LePlatt continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 162 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and also picking up 76 receiving yards and three TDs. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles. Gabe Sintas was another key player, throwing for 120 yards and four TDs on only nine passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Primero was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 348 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Sierra Grande against Mountain Valley on Saturday as the team secured an 85-6 win. That 79 point margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
Sierra Grande didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jadyn Martinez and Sammy Gonzalez. Martinez's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 110 rushing yards. Sierra Grande received some extra help from Martinez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Sierra Grande's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Primero, their win bumped their record up to an identical 4-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Primero has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sierra Grande struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 179.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Primero couldn't quite get it done against Sierra Grande in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 54-44. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
