On Wednesday, the Idea Timberwolves faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Idea took a serious blow against Coolidge, falling 79-51. Idea has not had much luck with Coolidge recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Idea's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malachi Hoston, who scored 20 points. Hoston scored a full 39.2% of Idea's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Nehemiah Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Idea struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Coolidge racked up 12.
Quintin Cooper was his usual excellent self, scoring 38 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals for Coolidge. The matchup was Cooper's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makiah Gray, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds.
Idea now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Coolidge, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Idea won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Richard Wright Public Charter School at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th. As for Coolidge, they will take on Lake Clifton/Reach at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
