The Bishop Union Broncos will take on the Rosamond Roadrunners at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Bishop Union sitting on six straight victories and Rosamond on nine.
Bishop Union is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They managed a 30-26 win over Strathmore.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bishop Union to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tannyr Ludwick, who posted eight points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Faye Spoonhunter, who had two points in addition to eight boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rosamond). They blew past North 71-35 on Thursday. The Roadrunners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 matches by 20 points or more this season.
Bishop Union better keep an eye on Kiley Perez. She was instrumental in Rosamond's win, putting up 27 points along with three steals and three blocks. That's the most points Perez has posted since back in December of 2023. Ambrie Renteria was another key player, scoring 17 points.
Rosamond smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.
Rosamond pushed their record up to 24-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points over those games. As for Bishop Union, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Bishop Union has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rosamond struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Bishop Union suffered a grim 50-30 defeat to Rosamond in their previous meeting back in January. Can Bishop Union avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
