The Gates Chili Spartans lost against the Penfield Patriots back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Gates Chili was the victim of a tough 76-53 defeat at the hands of Penfield. While losing is never fun, Gates Chili can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 577th, while Penfield is ranked 17th).
Despite the loss, Gates Chili saw an underclassman step up: Joey Vigerzi scored 20 points along with two steals. Vigerzi hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Tantalo, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Gates Chili's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-13. As for Penfield, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Gates Chili will be playing at home against Webster Schroeder at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gates Chili focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday. Penfield will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Rush-Henrietta at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Rush-Henrietta has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 468 points over their last seven matches.
