East Chapel Hill is 0-10 against Hillside since January of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The East Chapel Hill Wildcats will be playing at home against the Hillside Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
East Chapel Hill is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Jordan on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. East Chapel Hill was outmatched by Jordan and fell 55-22. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Falcons are ranked 140th).

Despite the defeat, East Chapel Hill had strong showings from Alana Burroughs, who posted eight points and five steals, and Alison Zaranek, who had six points. Burroughs has been hot, having posted four or more steals the last eight times she's played.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-27, which was the final score in Hillside's tilt against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability back in December of 2024. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
East Chapel Hill will have to contain Mckenzy Green as she made an impact in Hillside's last game. She put up five points and five rebounds. Jayla Smith was another key player, putting up four points.
Even though they lost, Hillside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
East Chapel Hill's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Hillside, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Chapel Hill has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Hillside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Chapel Hill ended up a good deal behind Hillside in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, losing 67-52. Can East Chapel Hill avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
