Jasper is 8-2 against Vincennes Lincoln since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Alices at 5:30 p.m. Neither Jasper nor Vincennes Lincoln posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Gibson Southern hit Jasper with a four-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 12-2 to the Titans. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost seven in a row.
Jasper saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Aguilera, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that Aguilera has scored this season.
Meanwhile, Vincennes Lincoln fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Evansville Memorial on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 6-2 to the Tigers. The Alices' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Olivia Lange spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Grace Archer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Vincennes Lincoln now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Jasper, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8-1.
Vincennes Lincoln's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jasper has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Vincennes Lincoln, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Jasper's sizable advantage in that area, the Alices will need to find a way to close that gap.
