The Regents Lions entered their tilt with the Temple Christian Crusaders with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Regents secured a 50-46 W over Temple Christian on Thursday. Given Regents' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Temple Christian is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Regents got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Morris Hoffman out in front who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of David Keppel, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Regents pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points per game. As for Temple Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Regents will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Faith Christian at 6:15 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully Faith Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Temple Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grace Christian at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Grace Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
