Valencia and Piedra Vista are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Valencia Jaguars take on Piedra Vista Panthers at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday. Piedra Vista took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Valencia, who comes in off a win.
Valencia made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Bloomfield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Valencia put the hurt on Bloomfield with a sharp 15-9 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Jaguars needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Valencia got a massive performance out of Rosalyn Rael, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambria Garley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Valencia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Piedra Vista faced Silver in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Piedra Vista came up short against Silver, falling 12-5. That makes it the first time this season the Panthers have let down their home crowd.
Piedra Vista saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was BROOKELYNN CADRAIN, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Piedra Vista's loss dropped their record down to 7-5-1. As for Valencia, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Valencia's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. Valencia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Piedra Vista, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Valencia continue to outrun the ball?
Valencia might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Piedra Vista when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Valencia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
