The Brooke Bruins will head out on the road to challenge the Buckeye Local Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Brooke has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight losses, while Buckeye Local will come in with three straight wins.
On Saturday, Brooke didn't have quite enough to beat Harrison Central and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Bruins have lost by just one run.
Avery Rado put in work no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Jazymn Wood was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Emma Bober was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buckeye Local). They walked away with an 8-3 victory over East Liverpool on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Brooke, Buckeye Local also got a great game from a two-way player: Karlie Lander. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Lander was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Buckeye Local got a big performance out of Danika Bauknecht, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That run was Bauknecht's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Necia Hosenfeld, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Buckeye Local now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Brooke, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
